The Crow is a new comedy club in Santa Monica for which I started my involvement by helping with marketing and community initiatives and later took over as the Director of the Nonprofit and kids’ comedy teacher.

*Get your story out

Sometimes, it is crucial to just get stuff out. Whether that’s sickness or feelings, the healing comes from that release. That’s why The Crow is partnering with The American Cancer Society on an innovative and supportive project to give cancer thrivers, survivors, and caregivers the space to share and connect.

Through RadNet, we will offer donation- and sponsorship-funded storytelling classes for those whose lives have been or are still affected by cancer and want/need a healing space to inform, uplift, or reflect.

Meeting once a week for six weeks, these classes will not only provide its students with a community of experience-similar storytellers, but also the structure and guidance to tell their stories in a personal and effective way with Nicole Blaine, a comedic storytelling teacher, as the guide. Each class will finish with a final storytelling show featuring the students alongside professional comedians who have also been affected by cancer. As the program expands, we will look to have our performers share their stories at walks, fundraisers, and beyond.

Helping get the word out when The Crow first opened

Opening this June: Woman-run comedy club in Santa Monica aims to elevate comedy culture

On June 3rd, Nicole Blaine (NBC, E!, HBO’s Women in Comedy Festival) is opening The Crow – a new comedy space at Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica.  Featuring seasoned performers and L.A.’s most exciting new voices, The Crow will offer both family-friendly and not-so-family-friendly shows.

The Crow is woman (and mom) –owned, an important distinction in the male-dominated comedy world.  Envisioned as a response to the all-too-common gatekeeping at comedy theaters, this collaborative space is built around inclusivity and progress.  “Our duty is to create an environment that allows development for all,” said Blaine. “Using comedy as a vehicle for good and for growth is who we are.”  The Crow mixes art with education to elevate comedy culture and the community at-large.

Comedy fans or moms who want their kids out of the house will find plenty of opportunities to get involved through classes, summer camps, open mics, or simply taking in a show.  Classes and shows include stand-up, storytelling, improv, and sketch.

The Crow welcomes all who welcome all.

The Crow: New Santa Monica COMEDY CAMP gives kids a space to laugh, learn, and grow

The new comedy club at Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica is launching kids’ summer camps this June.  These week-long programs are for any kid between 7 and 12 who loves to get a laugh and is ready to channel that energy.

Focusing on stand-up, improv, sketch, storytelling, writing, and stage confidence, kids will have an opportunity to learn joke structure while finding their perspective and voice through exciting play and activities. Each day will be mixed with team building, performance art, outdoor play, arts and crafts, and community service.  At the end of each session, campers will perform in a live performance for family and friends.  Young jokesters are able to register for just one session or up to all five.

Borne of passion for creating understanding and growth through laughter, The Crow is mom-owned and run – a true differentiator in the comedy world.

Camp starts June 13 at Bergamot Station, and registration information can be found on CrowComedy.com. Scholarships are available!
